We have some exciting news! The launch of an entirely new range called Loch Gorm is due on the 8th of April. Named after a famously peaty loch at the end of the Kilchoman drive, Loch Gorm will be the only fully ex-sherry cask matured release from Kilchoman.
As with the two other ranges, Loch Gorm will be periodically re-released as a more mature version with each bottling differentiated by distillation and bottling years printed on the label.
This, the first release of Loch Gorm was matured in Oloroso sherry butts for over 5 years and finished in Oloroso sherry hogsheads for six weeks to give added depth of colour and character. It is a limited release of 10,000 bottles worldwide.
Anthony Wills has said “’previous sherry matured Kilchomans have been very popular with our customers and I’m sure this will be as equally well received. It shows wonderful balance between the peat smoke and spicy rich flavours typical of sherry cask maturation.”
Machir Bay 2013 is now available!!
The Machir Bay range is Kilchoman’s core expression, first launched in 2012 when it won the prestigious IWSC 2012 Gold Medal – Best in Class. Bottled once a year, each release contains more mature whisky each year allowing Kilchoman fans to follow the development of the unique Kilchoman malt as it matures.
Machir Bay 2013 is a vatting of 4 and 5 year old ex-bourbon casks, with the 4 year casks being finished in Oloroso sherry butts for 4 weeks prior to bottling.
John MacLellan, Kilchoman Distillery Manager: “The 2013 Machir Bay displays further evolution of the 2012 release, showing more maturation flavours from the excellent cask regime and is softer and more rounded with lovely creamy mouth- filling flavours”
Anthony Wills, Kilchoman Managing Director: “Sales of Machir Bay 2012 far exceeded our expectations so we hope people will be equally impressed with this year’s more mature offering”

As of the 7th of January the whole team at Kilchoman were back to the distillery. Tony and Gavin have got us back into production and have been mashing in. The bottling hall has also cranked into action for 2013 which will hopefully see bottles of Kilchoman flying out to people around the world!
This weekend 10th/11th November, John MacLellan our distillery manager will be doing a Master Class at the Milano Whisky Festival! He will be including various Kilchoman expressions including our NEW 100% Islay and a single cask bottling which has been selected for this event and it will be available to buy.
We hope to see some of you there!
Kilchoman have been announced as one of the finalists for the BBC’s Food and Farming Awards. We are nominated in the Best Drinks Producer section of the awards. The judges were looking for inspirational brewers, wine makers, distillers and juice-makers, using carefully sourced ingredients and skill to produce an outstanding drink.
Here is a link to the BBC radio 4 show announcing the finalists:
The Society of Petroleum Engineers held a technical meeting in Inverness 17-19th September on “Well Collision Avoidance and Well Interceptions – Hits and Misses”. Leading specialists in the oil drilling industry came together for three days to discuss techniques and technologies for drilling oil and gas wells safely. They also exchanged information on the rarely needed, but very important methods for locating wells underground in the event of a blow-out or other problems.
John Thorogood, a director, is pictured with the winners of a competition where teams, using a computer simulator, had to drill a well 4km underground to intersect another well that was blowing out. The winners were: Ben Hawkinson (Scientific Drilling, California), Inge Mosti (Statoil, Bergen and a great fan of Islay malts), Mike Walker (Exxon, Houston), Barry Smart (Gyrodata, Aberdeen) and Shirish Deshpande (Schlumberger, St Johns’ Newfoundland). David Chen (Hess, Houston) had to leave before the photograph was taken.
