Visiting Kilchoman

As the only independent farm distillery on Islay, we are proud to have all stages of the whisky-making process taking place right here at Kilchoman. Book one of our whisky distillery tours to come and see for yourself! Witness the full whisky experience from barley growing in the neighbouring fields, the inner-workings of the distillery, to our on-site bottling line.

Classic Tour

10am, 1.30pm and 2.30pm Daily Adults: £10 Children: £5 1 Hour

Join the only ‘Barley to Bottle’ experience in Scotland, and gain an insight into the day-to-day running of our distillery. You will have the opportunity to walk through the distillery production accompanied by one of our friendly guides and taste two of our core expressions. A tasting glass is included and drivers drams are available if required.

We have allocated spaces available for children 8+ years subject to a small admission fee and may also be booked online.

Valid ID must be provided on request for drams. Parents and Guardians MUST be responsible for their children at all times.

Premium Tour

11am Daily £35 2 Hours

Come on a journey around our distillery, learning about the vision our founder Anthony Wills had for Kilchoman and exploring the recent developments. During this two-hour experience you will be given a detailed explanation for each part of the whisky making process, all taking place on site. You will also be guided to our Warehouse to discuss maturation whilst soaking in it’s amazing aromas. A tutored sit down tasting is provided afterwards to allow you to sample our award-winning range of single malts.

Roving Tasting

3.30pm Daily £25 1 Hour

Our roving tasting tour promises to be a treat for all your senses. As you work your way round the distillery you’ll be offered tastings of 5 carefully chosen drams including some of our current releases and something from the distillery archive.  As you walk through the different stages in production, including  our traditional Malt Floor, peat filled Kiln and atmospheric Warehouse, you’ll experience an overwhelming variety of sights, smells and sounds.

Whisky & Wilderness Tour

11am Thurs (April - Sept) £35 2.5 Hours

Kilchoman Distillery is situated within the Parish of Kilchoman, home to some of Islay’s most fertile ground. It is here, in the fields surrounding the distillery, that we grow 200 tons of barley each year to use for producing our 100% Islay releases. On this tour you will learn about the history of the area, the local wildlife as well as enjoying some spectacular views while exploring this idyllic location. Gain an insight into our whisky making process and what makes our Distillery here at Kilchoman uniquely Islay.

An intermediate level of fitness is required as we will be walking through marsh ground. We aim to be outdoors in all weather, please bring along suitable walking boots and outdoor clothing, even on a sunny day the weather can change very quickly on Islay!

Group Bookings

Minimum of 8 People

We are happy to provide whisky tours of our Islay Distillery for groups of 8 or more people. It is advised that you book these in advance as our scheduled tours are restricted in numbers. Contact Us

Our distillery is 5 miles off the main road. It’s a beautiful drive down a single track road until you get to us at Kilchoman. Please drive carefully and use the passing places when available. We also provide ‘driving drams’ for those drivers in the group who can take them away to enjoy later.
